Marco Polo Season 3: Marco Polo is an American drama streaming television series inspired by Marco Polo’s early years in the court of Kublai Khan, the Khagan of the Mongol Empire, and the founder of the Yuan dynasty (1271–1368).
John Fusco created the show, which debuted on Netflix on December 12, 2014. Everything you need to know about the latest updates on Marco Polo Season 3 is covered in this post.
Will There Be a Marco Polo Season 3?
No, the third season of Marco Polo has been officially canceled. Netflix has decided to end the epic journey of Marco Polo after just two seasons.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news of the cancellation, marking Marco Polo as the first Netflix original series not to make it to a third season. Lorenzo Richelmy played the titular character, portraying the legendary merchant who ventured from Italy to China and eventually found himself in the court of Kublai Khan, portrayed by Benedict Wong.
Marco Polo premiered back in 2014 with a hefty budget, reportedly around $90 million for its first season, which put it in the league of HBO’s Game of Thrones.
However, it received mixed reviews, and its second season, which debuted last summer, didn’t create much buzz. The total budget for both seasons soared to over $200 million. The decision to pull the plug was a joint one between Netflix and the show’s producers, The Weinstein Company.
Cindy Holland, Netflix’s VP of original content, expressed gratitude to everyone involved in Marco Polo, from the talented actors to the dedicated producers and crew. She also acknowledged the collaboration with The Weinstein Company throughout the series’ journey.
